HI, I'M JODIE!

My Journey so far

I started practicing Yoga in 2014 after moving to Musselburgh. Initially I was drawn to the physical side of Yoga, but as I began to practice regularly other benefits became clear. Yoga didn't just help me with my strength and mobility but it helped me with my anxiety and everyday life.

By 2017 I wanted to go deeper but being a master procrastinator I needed a push to do my teacher training so my husband gave me a shove by booking it for me!

I completed my RYT 200 hour Yoga teacher training with Dhugal Meachem of Tribe Yoga Academy in 2017. Initially I wasn't sure I wanted to teach but after teaching family and friends I built up my confidence and stepped in feet first and haven't looked back.

Yoga is many things to many people, there are many different styles of yoga, different lineages and if you asked 100 people what yoga was and does for them you would likely get 100 different answers. That is the beauty of yoga. Meet yourself on the mat, learn about you and your body and take what you need.

I suffer from Fibromyalgia and PCOS and the extra symptoms that come with them, fatigue, anxiety and phantom aches and pains. Yoga gives me what I need, some days if I have energy I will do a faster paced sweaty class but sometimes its slow gentle movement or no movement at all, maybe doing yin or meditation. I think yoga can be for everyone you just need to find the right class and the right teacher.

I'm constantly continuing to build on my knowledge as there is always something else to learn or deepen your knowledge of when it comes to Yoga and the complimentary therapies. I regularly attend CPD courses and workshops to develop my teaching and my own practice.

Some of the extra learning I have done

  • RPYT 85 hour pregnancy Yoga course

  • Sport Massage Diploma

  • Level 2 Anatomy for Yoga Course 15Hour CPD

  • Trauma informed teacher training 50hours

  • Indian Head Massage

I have also attended courses on Ayurvedic Massage, philosophy and chanting and the art of adjustments with Karen Kirkness of Meadowlark Yoga.

I am currently 2/3 of the way through studying to obtain my RYT500.

CLASS TIME TABLE

GENTLE YOGA

A slow steady class great for people new to yoga or who would like a gentler pace. We move and breath mindfully through a sequence, all of the postures are grouped together so you aren’t getting up and down off the floor, (all seated postures together, standing postures together) making it a great class for injuries, ailments and limited mobility.
This class is also suitable for second and third trimester of pregnancy but please let me know prior to booking.

Please wear a mask (you can take it off once on your mat), bring your own mat and props and come dressed ready to practice.

HATHA YOGA

This class get you sweaty, moving and breathing your way through standing postures, seated, backbends, inversions and ending with a well earned savasana. It’s suitable for most levels as options are given but a knowledge of some of the more common postures is useful as we move at a quicker pace. If you have never done yoga before why not check out the beginners or gentle yoga.

Please wear a mask (you can take it off once on your mat), bring your own mat and props and come dressed ready to practice.

BEGINNERS YOGA

If you have never done a yoga class before don't fret, this class is for you. This is a steady paced class where we get to know the foundational poses of yoga.

Please wear a mask (you can take it off once on your mat), bring your own mat and props and come dressed ready to practice.

ASHTANGA SET SEQUENCE

The Ashtanga primary series is a great way to work on your yoga practice, in this class we do a half Primary sequence but which half depends on the week. working on the same sequence regularly is a brilliant way to get a little bit more of the moving meditation benefit. Dynamic movement with lots of strength work, this class should leave you feeling strong and powerful but definitely ready for bed. Great cross training option for athletes. Not suitable for absolute beginners.

ONLINE ALIGN FLOW AND RESTORE

This is a steady paced flow class that will look at your alignment and posture and get you moving and learning how to  adapt the movements to suit your body and practice. towards the end of class we slow right down and grab the props (you don’t need anything special you can use stuff from round the house) for a few restorative postures that will leave you refreshed and restored.  This class is suitable for all levels, beginners welcome.

CORE VINYASA

Engage your abdominal muscles to help build a strong flexibility core.

Working deep in the core will enhance your yoga  practice immeasurably and promote healthy posture off the mat too! Developing good core strength will help align your body to protect your lower back and help you move more efficiently. A great class for those interested in staying strong and supple and developing an internal core strength!

Starting Yoga has completely changed my life. After an injury to my back 20 years ago I've been on various medications for years. After a few months of practising Yoga and learning how the muscle groups work my intake of medications have been cut down to more or less nothing. The class is very relaxed and is not only great for the body but for the mind also. One hour to spend time on yourself and away from the general stress of life. Thanks Jodie
